Year 1 & 2 - Bay 2020 - 2021

Mrs Winterson

Welcome Back!

I hope you have had a lovely Christmas and I hope the children enjoyed themselves. We have got exciting lessons planned for this new term. Our new topic is Muck, Mess and Mixtures. So.......

Let’s get messy. Muck and mess are good. In fact, they're marvellous. Dive in and get your hands and feet all sticky and covered in paint. Play with liquids, squish some dough and check out the slushiest and mushiest foods. Pour, mix, stir, splat. How does it feel to get your hands covered in goo? Make a wobbly jelly and draw with wibbly clay. Write recipes, instructions, riddles and poems – there are loads of scrummy words to describe messy mixtures. Work with paint and other squelchy stuff to create a new gallery space. What will you make? How will you arrange it? How will the gallery make you and your visitors feel? Don’t worry about the mess – it’ll always wash.

Please find attached a copy of the knowledge organiser and home learning ideas for Muck, Mess and Mixtures.

Lessons begin 8: 55 am

School Finishes 3:20pm

Entrance / Exit  is from the Key Stage 1 door.

P.E days are Monday & Wednesday.  PE kits should comprise of black shorts, coloured house tee - shirt and pumps.  Trainers , jogging bottoms and a sweater for colder days when outdoor PE is being taught.  PE kits need to be brought into school only on the days of PE and are taken home at the end of each PE day.

Your child will be given a new reading book based on their own reading ability for them to read at home with an adult. Reading journals and books need to be in school everyday.  Encourage your child to read to you daily. A study of 17,000 people from birth indicates that reading for pleasure improves not just literacy, but maths ability too.   When your child reads with you please date and sign your reading journal so that we can monitor children's progress properly.  Check your reading dairy daily as we might write you a note.

Presentation of homework is important so please encourage your child to write in pencil, underline with a ruler and write the date neatly.  There are always home learning ideas linked to your child's current topic too that might interest you. These are attached to this page.  Homework tends to be project based on our topic.  Homework is is given out on Wednesdays and is due in the following Monday.

Please make sure you have logged into Google Class room as we will be using this platform in the future for any home learning if children are absent.

Thank you
