Year 1 & 2 - Bay 2020 - 2021

Mrs Winterson

Wow what a fantastic first half term we had, the children worked hard and settled in well to school and the new normal.  They thouroughly enjoyed our first topic of Paws, Claws and Whiskers.  How can we beat that!

Our new topic is Enchanted Woodland. Developing children’s knowledge of British wildlife and woodland habitats. Children will observe and identify plants and animals, understand seasonal changes and appreciate the wonder of the woodland.  We have lots of exciting lessons planned and we can not wait to see how the children progress this half term.  I would just like to say a huge thank you for your continued support , thank you.

Although I have already sent you these, please find attached a copy of the Knowledge Organiser and Home Learning Ideas for Enchanted Woodland.

Please remember if  your child has been absent due to Covid - 19 please take the time to complete the school work with your child. It is set on the home learning tab on the main page of the school website under Bay.  Thank you

P.E days are Monday & Wednesday.  PE kits should comprise of black shorts, coloured house tee - shirt and pumps.  Trainers , jogging bottoms and a sweater for colder days when outdoor PE is being taught.  PE kits need to be brought into school only on the days of PE and are taken home at the end of each PE day.

Your child will be given a new reading book based on their own reading ability for them to read at home with an adult. Reading journals and books need to be in school everyday.  Encourage your child to read to you daily. A study of 17,000 people from birth indicates that reading for pleasure improves not just literacy, but maths ability too.   When your child reads with you please date and sign your reading journal so that we can monitor children's progress properly.  Check your reading dairy daily as we might write you a note.

Presentation of homework is important so please encourage your child to write in pencil, underline with a ruler and write the date neatly.  There are always home learning ideas linked to your child's current topic too that might interest you. These are attached to this page. Homework will mainly be online.
