Year 1 Elm 2017 - 2018
Welcome to Miss Jenkins and Mrs Foulkes class
I hope you have had a lovely break and have enjoyed spending time with your family and friends.
In English we will be doing stories from different "Cultures". We will be learning new words and vocabulary when listening to these stories. We will be finding out about the animals found in the bush in Australia and a range of fruits in Handa's Surprise set in Africa. We will be learning about Spanish traditions too.
Singapore Maths will continue to consist of: word problems and reasoning. We will be covering: multiplication and division as well as fractions and time. We will also be learning numbers up to 100. Please continue to use the Sumdog program at home. We are also focussing on Mental recall of numbers bonds to 20, doubles and near doubles (4+4 and 4+5).
In Science we will be learning about "Seasonal Changes". We will be revisiting the allotment and school grounds to see if our bulbs have grown. In the classroom we have a role play area which is a Garden Centre. Here we will be watching our seeds grow until they are ready to go into the allotment. I love seeing what happens when seed and bulbs grow.
Our topic is "Weather". We will be learning about the different weather types during the various seasons and what clothes are needed for these different seasons. We are going to talk about the children's favourite seasons and making a tally chart.
In PE we are getting fit ready for Sport's Day. We are hoing the weather will be nice so that we will be able to practise some running races and obstacle course events too. Look on the website for more information regarding Sport's Day (dates and times). It would be lovely if the children could bring in their coloured top for PE.
Thank you for your support
