Year 1 Elm 2017 - 2018
Welcome to Miss Jenkins and Mrs Foulkes class
I hope you have had a lovely break and have enjoyed spending time with your family and friends.
In English we will be doing stories containing "Journeys" such as TheTrain Ride and we will be linking them to their personal experiences too. We will walking around Little Sutton and visiting the local library. We will be learning about how to write recounts using language (First, Next, Then, At Last, Finally). Our library visit is to encourage children to enjoy reading more and to hopefully join the library over the Spring break.
Singapore Maths will continue to consist of: word problems and reasoning. We will be covering: addition and subtraction and numbers up to 40 as well as multiplication and division. Please continue to use the Sumdog program at home. We are also focussing on Days of the week and months of the year. Please talk to your child about when important things take place eg. family members birthdays, seasons etc.
In Science we will be learning about "Animals and their Habitats". We be learning lots of new facts about: Penguins, Fish (Salmon) and insects. We will be revisiting the allotment and school grounds to see if our bulbs have grown. In the classroom we have changed our role play area into a Garden Centre. Here we will be watching our seeds grow until they are ready to go into the allotment. I love seeing what happens when seed and bulbs grow.
Our topic is "Journeys". We will be learning about places and famous landmarks in the UK. A very kind bear called "Barnaby Bear" is going to help us. Please see the Topic web for more information. If you would like to talk to your child about the countries and capital cities in the UK that would be great!
In PE we are doing Multi skills and we are getting fit ready for Sport's Day and Ball skills to help with the children's coordination skills.
Thank you for your support
