Year 3 Pine 2019 - 2020
Miss Bateman and the Year 3 Team welcome you to Pine Class (Year 3)
Miss Bateman (Class Teacher) Mr Perry (Teacher) Mrs Bowen-Lewis (HLTA) Mrs Armour (TA)
I hope you have all had a lovely half term.
Just a reminder that Swimming continues on a Thursday morning.
Remember, if you would like to come and have a chat about anything please come and see me after school or phone the office to make an appointment.
Looking forward to another fun-filled half term!
Urban Pioneers - This half term, we’ll visit our local town to look at important buildings. We’ll photograph urban art including graffiti, murals and statues. At school, we’ll write an information leaflet about our town. Using digital mapping tools, we’ll identify the streets and buildings that we saw. We’ll investigate cities around the world and find out how they’ve changed over time. We’ll have questions for you about where you work or places you often visit, and we’ll present the data we have collected. As part of our design work, we’ll build a model urban landscape, create dramatic light effects and find out how light is used to keep people safe at night. At the end of the ILP, we’ll create a sign for our town, thinking about imaginative wording and appealing colours.
Outdoor P.E will be taught on a Monday with Miss Bateman/Mr Perry and Indoor PE on a Tuesday with Mr Howsam. Children need to ensure that their P.E kits are in school at the start of the term and then keep them in school until half term. Children need to have a pair of black/navy jogging bottoms, black/navy hoody and sturdy trainers for outdoor P.E, as well as their normal P.E kit.
Homework will be set on a Wednesday and is due in on a Monday. Your child will receive spellings and another piece of homework either Maths, English or Topic related. Spelling books should be handed in on a Tuesday at the latest so we can prepare the next lot of spellings for your children to learn at home.
Reading books and journals should be in school every day, as our shared reading slot may change. Please note these are checked at least weekly.
Regular reading throughout the week is also expected and it has a massive impact on your child's progress across all subjects. The children are incentivised on how many times they read, so the more times they read at home to an adult the better!
Please make sure your child has their tuck money for the week on a Monday!
Remember you can use Parent Pay to pay for your child's school lunches online!
We will hope to put photos on the website to show you what we have been doing. We can only add photos of your child if you have given consent. Please check with the office that we have your preference correct. This will include class photos, Christmas Production, trips and general day to day school activities. Thank you to everyone who has completed the form already.
Please encourage your child to play Maths games. The children will start to become more familiar with Sumdog and Times Table Rockstarts this year. The apps are free to download and these will help them to progress within Maths.

For practising your spellings use this website, just type in your own spellings and play games with your spellings: https://www.spellingcity.com/
We encourage your child to remain in touch with current affairs, so that they can stay informed and begin to form opinions about important issues. I highly recommend watching Newsround and discussing the day’s news. There is also a fun weekly quiz. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/
Here are some more free-to-use websites. Find one with some games that you like!
Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPAG) is a big focus. Here are some useful websites with games that you can play at home. Please use these regularly to support the work we are doing in school.
