Year 3 Pine 2019 - 2020

Miss Bateman

Miss Bateman and the Year 3 Team welcome you to Pine Class (Year 3)

Miss Bateman (Class Teacher)   Mr Perry (Teacher)        Mrs Bowen-Lewis (HLTA)      Mrs Armour (TA)

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and are looking forward to the new Spring Term.

We have got a very exciting half term coming up which includes our Beeston Residential (10th-12th February) and Swimming (commencing Thursday 13th February).

Remember, if you would like to come and have a chat about anything please come and see me after school or phone the office to make an appointment.

Looking forward to another fun-filled half term!

Miss Bateman.

Cornerstones Topic

This half term, we are starting off our 'Predators' topic with a Birds of Prey morning to discover how they move, what they feel like and what they eat. We’ll also program a toy to move across a grid – will it be caught by a predator? We’ll learn about the different parts of a plant and how some plants are predators! From our investigations about the human skeleton, we’ll find out how muscle make the bones move. We’ll investigate food chains and learn about how animals find their food. Using the internet, we’ll research the majestic peregrine falcon and discover where crocodiles live. After our research, we’ll create an exciting aquatic animation.

Memorable Experience - Birds of Prey Morning.

Outdoor P.E will be taught on a Monday with Miss Bateman/Mr Perry and Indoor PE on a Tuesday with Mr Howsam. Children need to ensure that their P.E kits are in school at the start of the term and then keep them in school until half term. Children need to have a pair of black/navy jogging bottoms, black/navy hoody and sturdy trainers for outdoor P.E, as well as their normal P.E kit.

Homework will be set on a Wednesday and is due in on a Monday. Your child will receive spellings and another piece of homework either Maths, English or Topic related. Spelling books should be handed in on a Tuesday at the latest so we can prepare the next lot of spellings for your children to learn at home.

Reading books and journals should be in school every day, as our shared reading slot may change. Please note these are checked at least weekly.

Regular reading throughout the week is also expected and it has a massive impact on your child's progress across all subjects. The children are incentivised on how many times they read, so the more times they read at home to an adult the better!

Please make sure your child has their tuck money for the week on a Monday!

School Lunches

Remember you can use Parent Pay to pay for your child's school lunches online!

We will hope to put photos on the website to show you what we have been doing. We can only add photos of your child if you have given consent. Please check with the office that we have your preference correct. This will include class photos, Christmas Production, trips and general day to day school activities. Thank you to everyone who has completed the form already.

Useful Apps

Please encourage your child to play Maths games. The children will start to become more familiar with Sumdog and Times Table Rockstarts this year. The apps are free to download and these will help them to progress within Maths.

We encourage your child to remain in touch with current affairs, so that they can stay informed and begin to form opinions about important issues. I highly recommend watching Newsround and discussing the day’s news. There is also a fun weekly quiz.
