In Sutton Green Primary School we teach History and Geography through a cross curricular thematic approach.

We follow a long term plan based on the National Curriculum.

Trips and Visitors

Where possible we try to enhance our learning through trips and inviting visitors to school.

EYFS- Farm visit

Year 1- Local Area, Library, Liverpool Maritime Museum

Year 2- Tesco  'Farm to Fork Project', Chirk Castle,  Visit to Little Sutton Methodist Church for the Christmas Story

Year 3- Manley Mere, Stone, Iron and Bronze Age workshop Burwardsley,

Year 4- Visit to Chester and the Roman Experience, Manley Mere 

Year5/6- Visit to Liverpool World Museum (WW1 and China) Visit to Moreton Methodist Church for WW1 experience, Trip to Tatton Park dressed as evacuees

Whole School Focus

Each year we choose a text or event around which to focus our learning.This is then collated to form a whole school display where the children, staff, parents and visitors can enjoy the published work.

Summer 2013 -We celebrated the Queen's Golden Jubliee

Autumn 2013 -Our book focus was 'Where My Wellies Take Me' written by Michael Morpurgo

November 2014 -We remembered World War 1

Summer 2015 -We used a cross curricular approach themed 'Sutton Green Explorers'

Autumn 2015 - Our Book focus was The Story of Life: A first book about evolution. written by Catherine Barr.

Autumn 2016 - Famous British People
