Science at Sutton Green
The children in year 1 are enjoying their ‘Plants’ topic. They are learning to identify and name a different plants and to identify and describe the basic structure of plants and tree. They have also exploring their garden centre role play area.
Last half term the children in year 2 have been investigating ‘Animals including humans’. They have learnt about animal babies, what animals including humans need to survive and also investigate the importance of a healthy exercise, diet and hygiene for humans. They especially enjoy designing a balanced meal, yummy! This half term the year 2’s will be looking at ‘Living things and their habitats’.
The year 3 children will be investigating Plants. They will identify find out about the different parts of a plants and the jobs they do, they will be carrying out some investigations to find out what plants need and they will be looking at life cycles of plants. What a lovely topic for the start of spring!
Last half year 4 completed their science topic on ‘Sound’. They can now identify how sounds are made, they recognise that sounds get fainter as the distance from the sound source increases and they investigated the patterns between the volume of a sound and the strength of the vibrations that produced it.
Year 5 and 6
Years 5 and 6 have been working on their science topic of ‘Properties and changes of materials’. They have had to compare and group together everyday materials based on evidence. They investigated how some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution, and describe how to recover a substance from a solution. They also designed experiments to separate different mixtures. They have produced some excellent work, well done year 5 and 6.
Science Week 2016 – Super Space!
