The Arts (Art and Design & Design and Technology)
Welcome to The Arts section of the curriculum
At Sutton Green we teach Art and Design Technology using a cross curricular approach. Using our Cornerstones curriculum planning, we are able to provide exciting and varied art and design technology activities that link with our cross-curricular termly class projects and teaches the skills set out in the National Curriculum and Early Years Curriculum. The cross curricular approach gives us the opportunity to expand the variety of art forms being used within school, such as drama and dance to support learning in other areas of the curriculum.
Here at Sutton Green we are very proud of our collaborative projects that are displayed in the corridors and our spectacular library displays (see gallery).
Our school is registered as an Arts Award Centre and we have two teachers who are qualified Arts Award assessors (Mrs Richards EYFS/KS1 and Miss Dunning KS2). Mrs Richards is currently working alongside Year 3 to support each child in achieving a discover level arts award.
We also aim to provide children with enriching opportunities, such as working with local artists and exhibiting their work at local Arts Festivals. We are proud to be part of the Amasing project and have given children the opportunities to represent our school in art, drama and dance workshops. Year 3 have produced art pieces based on 'happiness and memories', some of which were displayed at an art gallery in the Storyhouse in Chester. Year 3 also worked with professional dancers in a street dance project and proudly came 1st in a competition with other local schools. We regularly have the visiting theatre company M&M productions come to perform for the whole school and then hold a workshop for the Year 6 children. Recent performances have included Oliver Twist and Sleeping Beauty.
We is also a very popular art 'university' that children can choose to attend during their Golden Time every Friday afternoon.
