Governors
A Welcome Message From The Chair Of Governors
Dear Parents and Carers
On behalf of the Governing Body at Sutton Green Primary School, I would like to warmly welcome you and your child(ren) to our school.
At Sutton Green Primary School, Governors, staff, parents and children work together in a happy, creative and high attaining environment; with our core values of “Learn Together, Succeed Together, Achieve Together” underpinning everything we do.
The Governing Body is rightly proud of our school, not only in terms of their academic results; but also in the solid foundations it provides in preparing our pupils for the remainder of their formative education. The Governing Body want all pupils at our school to have happy memories of their time with us and when they leave to become independent lifelong learners.
I would like to take this opportunity to briefly introduce you to the work the Governing Body does to manage and support the strategic direction of the school with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team.
The Governing Body consists of 9 governors who are appointed by the board or elected to their roles either by parents or the Local Authority. The Governing Body is involved in every aspect of our school. This includes finance, safeguarding, premises management and staff appointments. As Governors, we consider our most important role to be the safety, welfare and educations of our pupils. All governors have an equal say in the running of the school and no one category or governor has more influence than any other.
Governors are appointed to ensure that objectives are met, and that future planning is both visionary and realistic. We provide strategic direction for the improvement of the school; monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school; and hold the school to account for the standards achieved and the quality of education. We are here to support and encourage our Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and all school personnel to ensure that every one of our children has access to an enriched education and to all the opportunities that they deserve.
Should you wish to contact me to discuss any matters further, I can be reached via the school office. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the school year.
Best Regards
Chair of Governors

About our Governors:
Jai Stark (Headteacher)
My name is Jai Stark and I have been the Headteacher of Sutton Green since April 2022. I began my teaching career in 2005 and was a Deputy Head for eight years before my appointment. I am driven by a love for education, enabling children to realise their potential and strive for happiness and a love of learning. I am focused on leading the school to achieve the best outcomes in all areas, prioritising the wellbeing of all. I am a father of two young children and love spending time with my family. Music is also a passion of mine. I enjoy singing, bashing the drums and stumming the guitar, although not at the same time! I know that the wonderful community here at Sutton Green will support myself and the governing body in continuing the positive journey of development.
Dr Gemma Wattret (Chair of Governors)
My name is Gemma Wattret and I am a Co-Opted Governor at Sutton Green Primary School. By day I am a lecturer in Microbiology at the University of Liverpool. I have a daughter who attends Sutton Green and I became a Governor in 2019. I wanted to become a Governor so that I could get involved in supporting the school and make further improvements for both staff and students. In my spare time I enjoy walking the dog, spinning and reading.
Gloria Broughton (Vice Chair of Governors)
My name is Gloria Broughton. I have a life- long interest and involvement in education. At present I am Vice-Chair of Sutton Green governing body. I have been a school governor for many years in the Ellesmere Port area, the majority of this time spent at Sutton Green where my children were educated. When I first moved to the area I was keen to do some voluntary work and friends suggested school governance as an option. I gained a Social Science degree and I have been involved in education all my working life. My teaching career has been in a range of settings in secondary schools, further and adult education. Before retirement I ran a Study Centre for young people excluded from mainstream school. Since retiring I have continued my interest in education by joining the local U3A of which I am vice- chair and also lead a local history group.
Lesley Ashton (Co-opted Governor)
My name is Lesley Ashton I am a co opted governor at Sutton Green Primary School and have been for 2 1/2 years. I became a governor to bring my knowledge of special needs to the school as I have a child with aspergers. I have also been a parent helper for over 5 years and a keen member of the family forum. My son left in September 2017 to go to high school but I still have 7 grandchildren who attend the school and nursery . I have a great love of the theatre and I love walking and family time.
Hannah Benson (Staff Governor)
My name is Hannah Benson and I am the staff Governor for Sutton Green Primary School. In the school I am the Deputy Headteacer and SENCO. My special interests are in Special Eduactional Needs.
Katie Davies ( Parent Governor)
My name is Katie Davies and I was appointed as a parent governor in February 2023. I have one child at Sutton Green and I work full time as a university Finance Manager. I wanted to become a governor to support & get more involved with the strong community ethos the school promotes. I particularly have an interest in the financial and strategic management of the school but also have a passion for raising awareness around diversity and inclusion.
