Our Topic - Autumn term

Movers and Shakers

This project teaches children about historically significant people who have had a major impact on the world. They will learn to use timelines, stories and historical sources to find out about the people featured and use historical models to explore their significance.

We start the project learning about art and artists. Children learn about basic colour theory by studying the colour wheel and colour mixing. It includes an exploration of primary and secondary colours and how artists use colour in their artwork. This project also teaches children about the work of significant still life artists and still life techniques. They explore a wide variety of still lifes and learn about the use of colour and composition. They create still life arrangements and artwork.

We will have a trip to the Manchester Science Museum to learn about inventors and discoveries.

Home Learning and Homework

Homework - We send homework home in a cardboard file This is named and should be returned to school each week with the completed homework in. Remember to put your child's name on it.

We also use Google Classroom to set work for our pupils, you will recieve an email if we use this method.

Please contact us if you do not have a google classroom login for your child.

Homework will alternate between Maths and English/Topic.

Date set - Wednesday

Date due - Monday

Reading  - Journals to be in school every day with your child's reading book.  Your child will be given two reading books, one from their phonics lesson which they should be able to read, and one of their choice to be enjoyed at home. Encourage your child to read to you daily. Studies stipulate that reading for pleasure not only improves literacy skills but also maths and other areas of the curriculum.

Extra Home Learning Ideas for our current Topic can be found in the documents below. Please note these home learning tasks are optional.
