Governors

A Welcome Message From The Chair Of Governors

I am delighted to have been elected as Chair of Governors in July 2015, I have been a governor here for three years and really value the role the governing body plays in the school community.

The Governing Body has a vital role in keeping the governance of the school focused on three core strategic functions:

  •  Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the schools and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
  •  Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

All governors are volunteers and have a wide range of skills and experience to help shape the strategic direction of the School.  We do not get involved in the day-to-day operational management of the school; that is for the Headteacher, but we do set the criteria by which the School is managed.

The School has made progress in recent years as evidenced by our latest Ofsted inspection in December 2013.  You can read the report in the Documents Section of this website.  The Governing Body is committed to ensuring the School is an Outstanding School and looks forward to working with staff, parents and the local community to ensure that this happens.

If you would like to know more about the work of the Governing Body or would like to share your thoughts and views, please do not hesitate to contact me via the School Office.

About our Governors:

Daniel Armer (Headteacher)

My name is Daniel Armer and I am the Headteacher of Sutton Green Primary School. I joined Sutton Green in September 2017 and prior to this I have worked in 4 other Primary Schools across 3 different counties. Coming from a Science background, my first degree was in Applied Zoology, I have a love of Science and Maths but also have a love of learning outside the classroom and cross curricular learning. Outside of school I have two primary aged children, who keep me busy, as well as being a keen cyclist who takes part in many charity events to raise money for child related charities.

Lee Hubbard (Chair of Governors)

My name is Lee Hubbard and I am Chair of Governors here at Sutton Green Primary School. I have been a governor for 5 years and thoroughly enjoy being part of the school community. I am a qualified solicitor by profession and have two primary school aged children. I am very proud of the staff and pupils we have at Sutton Green and believe that as Governors we have a very important role to play in raising standards within the school.

Gloria Broughton (Vice Chair of Governors)

My name is Gloria Broughton. I have a life- long interest and involvement in education. At present I am Vice-Chair of Sutton Green governing body. I have been a school governor for many years in the Ellesmere Port area, the majority of this time spent at Sutton Green where my children were educated.

When I first moved to the area I was keen to do some voluntary work and friends suggested school governance as an option.

I gained a Social Science degree and I have been involved in education all my working life. My teaching career has been in a range of settings in secondary schools, further and adult education. Before retirement I ran a Study Centre for young people excluded from mainstream school.

Since retiring I have continued my interest in education by joining the local U3A of which I am vice- chair and also lead a local history group.

Sheena McDermott (Co-opted Governor)

Hi, My name is Sheena McDermott and I’ve been one of the Governors of Sutton Green since 2016.  I’m a Project Manager in my day job, so I’m interested in helping to make sure Sutton Green is well managed and offers a safe, warm and welcoming environment for our children.   Education and learning have always been a big part of my life; my parents met at teaching college, my husband is a Teaching Assistant, and I have three school-age children plus one who’s graduated and now living in Australia.   When I’m not running round after the kids, I spend a lot of my free time helping out with a Food Waste charity in Wirral.

Richard Hague (Co-opted Governor)

My name is Richard Hague, I have been a governor at Sutton Green Primary School for over 9 years. I have two children who used to attend Sutton Green Primary, but they are now both at high school. I was also a member of the PTA for many years and eventually became Chairperson. Even though I am no longer a member of the PTA  I still like to give my time to help out when I can. I became a governor and a member of the PTA to give my support to the school and to the children. It is a rewarding and responsible job.

Outside of School I am an independent driving instructor which  keeps be busy. I also work with different Road Safety Units across the North West and with Merseyside Police Cadets. In my spare time I enjoy attending motorsport events, renovating classic sports cars and being a member of different car clubs.

Lesley Ashton (Co-opted Governor)

My name is Lesley Ashton I am a co opted governor at Sutton Green Primary School and have been for 2 1/2 years.  I became a governor to bring my knowledge of special needs to the school as I have a child with aspergers. I have also been a parent helper for over 5 years and a keen member of the family forum. My son left in September 2017 to go to high school but I still have 7 grandchildren who attend the school and nursery . I have a great love of the theatre and I love walking and family time.

Beverley Barr (Parent Governor)

Hi my name is Beverley Barr, I am a Parent Governor and also the SEND Governor at Sutton Green Primary School. I have worked in the Maternity Department at the Countess of Chester for more than 20 years. I have a primary aged child who I love spending as much time as possible with. I love being around children and have volunteered at the school for a few years now. I became a Governor in 2015. I wanted to become a Governor so that I could be involved in the decision making  that would benefit not only my own child's education, but all the children. In my spare time love zumba, gardening and shopping.

Paula Hair (Parent Governor)

My name is Paula Hair and I have been a Parent Governor at Sutton Green Primary School for nearly 3 years. I have a daughter in year 3 and my two sons now attend Neston High School. When I first started as a Governor, I was working at the school as a Mid-day Assistant, as well as helping out in classes in my spare time. I now work full-time for an alt-net Broadband & Telecoms provider in Project Support and Customer Services. My spare time is filled with spending precious time with my family and I like to take long walks with my family dog, Jorgy.

Lindsay Dodd (Parent Governor)

My name is Lindsay Dodd and I have been a Parent Governor at Sutton Green Primary School since 2016. As well as being a Parent Governor I am also a Teaching Assistant at the school. I have a varied background - I spent time serving in the Royal Navy and have also worked with children of all ages in a variety of different roles. I have two boys who both attend Sutton Green and are very happy at the school. I became a Governor for a number of reasons I have a genuine interest in education and believe that it is important parents have a voice when it comes to their child's education.
